Half Way Around the World

Image

All day yesterday, the program was showing us around our new university and the surrounding city, Wudaokou, highlighting the best restaurants and the cheapest stores.  I was pretty much in a daze the whole time-and it hadn’t sunk in yet that I was in China.

Well shortly after a nice afternoon, we piled into a van and traveled to a nearby section of the city called Houhai.  It is famous for their 3 large ponds (but they are referred to as “rivers”) that were made by an emperor.  There were lots of shops and restaurants around and boats on the rivers.  It was a really lovely view.  As I was walking around taking a plethora of pictures and seeing all the people rush by in every direction, it hit me that I was in China.

Thanks again to everyone who helped make this happen for me.  Oh and Dad, if I would have come by the bridge to see the sunset two minutes later the picture would have been ruined! 🙂

Stay tuned: This evening I will post more about my flight, getting to the university, and my dorm!

  1. OMG! The photograph you sent of the sunset was fabulous! I have a hard time believing you are in China I can’t imagine how you are feeling! I like that they showed you “inexpensive” shopping places!

Love you so much sweetie! Keep the posts on your blog coming as often as you can.

  2. Eva, you look lovely, very happy and very relaxed! It is nice to hear so far everything is going well. This I am sure is a relief to family and friends alike here at home. We can take a sigh of relieve to see you adjusting so well!

I expected every picture to have been filled with many, many people, as that is what we usually see on tv here at home! When in reality, in such a short amount of time you found a nice peaceful spot to share your first photo of yourself in the mist of China!

You my dear, are wise beyond your years to have the wisdom and kindness to put us all at ease! Well done!

Good night, rest well and be Eva!

    Much Love,

    Aunt Terrie

  3. It looks so beautiful there! I still can’t believe you’re there and it makes me sad I won’t be able to see you for a long time but I’m glad it’s worthwhile already! Love ya miss you already!

    Love,

    Victoria

  4. Eva,
Well, you and I can forever thank RIT for giving us the ‘Picture Will Be Ruined’ critique methodology that we can use to judge our photographs.

I have often wondered if that professor might have been trying to impart a deeper message there…. Something about opportunity knocking once, or maybe the importance of taking an action at the right time, or seizing the moment… And then I think back to him at that lecture and say “Naaaaaa…” ;).
