Hunting at a Chinese Grocery Store

Yesterday I explored a Chinese grocery store. The one close to campus actually has many American brands and products because of the large number of international students in the area.  However, there were still many surprises!

Like this! What is this? I have no idea except it was with the other identifiable fruits so I’m calling it a fruit.  Maybe when I get a little more comfortable I will pick out some mystery fruits and vegetables to try. (Edit: This is called Dragon Fruit. My roommate knows all about it and says it’s kind of bland!)

For now, I will stick with familiar foods like watermelon-my favorite summertime treat! Yet, they were massive. I put my hand next to one for comparison and they were at least 2.5 (Eva) hand lengths long. When I don’t have a big shopping day I will definitely carry one home!

But for now, I will restock up on Chinese Pantiene, some instant coffees, and biscuits.

I have to run! I’m meeting my language partner and trying out the dining hall for the first time. I hear the food is decent and extremely cheap so I’ll report back in soon!

  1. Hi: its 6:45 AM and I am having my first cup of coffee and chatting with you over E.Mail.  Your say you WILL try the dinning hall. Where have you been eating?  Do you have to cook along with all the studying you have to do.  It sounds like a good idea to have a partner to converse and study  with.  Is your partner on the same level and from the states.  Tell us more, we (I) want to know.  I miss you soo much.   Love   Grandma

  2. Eva, seeing your messages between yourself and “Grandma”, (hello to Miss Sondra) is so sweet! I feel like I am invading a personal chat between the two of you. So…I will just say hello and glad things are moving right along. Be safe and happy,

    Love,

    Aunt Terrie
