The Small Wild Goose Pagoda

Xi’an is famous for the Terracotta Warriors but also the Wild Goose Pagoda.  When Buddhism first reached China, a few people were intrigued.  So intrigued, they went to India to learn more about the religion and collect valuable sutras.  Xuan Zang was the most famous for the journey and stored all the Buddhist relics in the Wild Goose Pagoda.  In Xi’an, there is the big pagoda and a small pagoda.  Today, I visited the small pagoda!

We climbed up 12 flight of stairs to see the city below.  It was gorgeous! After standing at the top for a few minutes, our professor informed us that an earthquake split the pagoda in half.  Yet decades later another earthquake caused it to come together again.  Promptly after hearing this “fun fact” I decided to climb down.

Back down on the ground, I explored the garden which was brimming with blooming flowers!

What a beautiful place, filled with history and nature.  It is peaceful places such as these that I will miss most in China.
