We had the opportunity to visit a Music and Dance University in Urumqi which taught not only ballet and modern dance but also traditional Uyghur dances.

We even saw some male dancers show off their traditional dance moves!

Then they tried to teach us to dance! (It went horribly but we put in our best effort!)

Next we visited the music section of the university.  Some of these musicians are professors and some are student teachers but all are the best musicians of their instrument in the area.  The music they played was awe-inspiring.  (I will upload a video once I return to the U.S).  They were kind enough to let us try out their instruments after their performance.
