The 8:30pm Fountain Show

Image

8:30pm every night near the Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi’an City is the fountain show.  It lasts about 30 minutes and the fountain is coordinated to classical Chinese music.  I’ve already seen it twice and I absolute love it.  I become so relaxed just watching the intricate water show.

Plus, I’ve met some really nice people while waiting for the show to start.  Just last weekend I met a group of old Tibetan men who were in Xi’an to buy cars.  Apparently, it is cheaper to buy cars in Xi’an then where they live.  I also met a family who burst out giggling every time I said something in Chinese because they thought it was cute!

I enjoy going to this area because I can not only see the Fountain Show but I can also see the Wild Goose Pagoda at night.

The Wild Goose Pagoda was built in 652 during the Tang Dynasty.  It originally had 5 stories, but was rebuilt to have 7.  Xuan Zang was a traveling monk who brought Buddhist figures from India to this pagoda to be held. This is his statue in front.  Fun Fact: The pagoda leans slightly to the West after a severe earthquake .  Sad Fact: I’m still not quite sure why isn’t called the Wild Goose but it is.

Around the corner from this ancient landmark is a not so ancient landmark.  This is a block long LED screen on the ceiling of a mall!

When this picture was taken it was 9pm.  The LED screen is so bright it makes it look like day time.  They had birds migrate across the screen, the trees changing colors, and hot air balloons fly by!

I think I might go to the fountain once per week.  I like meeting new people there as well as feeling calm just watching the water.

  1. Eva, Just to let you know i sent my visa paperwork out tonight!!! Zac was extremely helpful! I told my boss I was going to clock out at 3 pm early (we had a retreat meeting today that went from 11 am until 3pm) just so I could knock it out since I got the information from Zac last night. I left work at 6 pm and went straight to the Fed Ex store on Forest drive to send out. They wanted a recent passport picture so I was there at 6 am this morning to get that done. it was interesting to navigate and I am so relieved to have it done 24 hours after I got the information from Zac! I will let you know when I get the visa in my hands. From your blog… Now this would be cool to see when I am there! I can’t wait! Anything I see will be fabulous! The only “must see” would be the Great Wall and then maybe Tiananmen Square and maybe the Bird’s nest stadium from the olympics. Are the Terra Cotta soldiers where you are? Believe me Great Wall only must see after you of course!

    Love you so much,

    Mom
