The Shanghai Glass Museum and Human Circus

Shanghai is a huge city.  If we going to see Shanghai, my Dad and I need to explore every corner of it.  After seeing downtown Shanghai, we decided to make the trek up to the northern section of the city to visit the Shanghai Glass Museum.  And boy was it a trek!  It took over an hour to transfer four times on the subway then catch a cab to the museum but it was worth it!

We learned about how glass is made, the techniques and technology involved, and saw a live demonstration.

After our adventure to the museum, we were too tired to take the subway across town so we hailed a crazy Shanghai taxi.  Although getting stuck in a little traffic, which brought cars so close together their paint was almost touching, we made it across town to eat dinner…not before having some fun though!

The Shanghai Circus World is essentially the Chinese version of Cirque du Soleil.  All the performers do extraordinary stunts that I can’t even begin to fathom how they train for.  Some girls were contortionists who could make themselves into a human ladder while some of the guys were like jumping beans as they flew through the air.  My Dad and I didn’t even realize until the end that all the music was live because we were so captivated by all the stunts.  At the end of the show, they had eight motorcycles driving around inside one large metal cage.  I’ve seen that done with one motorcycle but not eight!

The human circus was so fun to see but after a long day our legs were quite tired.  We made it back to our friends’ place and crashed for the night.

Tomorrow’s agenda: The People’s Park and the Bund!
