On day two, we traveled an hour outside of Dun Huang to visit Jade Gate Pass.\u00a0 For one hour this was all the scenery we saw.\u00a0 It’s interesting visiting an oasis town.\u00a0 Inside the town, there are tall, green trees and a lovely lake.\u00a0 Outside of the city, there is sand. SO MUCH SAND!<\/p>\n

This pass was really a fort located in between two mountains.\u00a0 Later, Jade Gate Pass was referred to as the main gate to the Silk Road.\u00a0 Travelers would come to this fort to get permission to go abroad or enter into China.\u00a0 Visiting Jade Gate Pass was like getting your passport!<\/p>\n

While there, our Anthropology professor told us many people find pottery pieces dating back to the Han Dynasty.\u00a0 And guess what, I found a piece! I can’t wait to show people once I return home!<\/p>\n

We next visited the Han Dynasty Great Wall.\u00a0 This wall is nothing like the famous <\/em>Great Wall because it is only 1 to 1.6 meters tall (in it’s prime it was 2 meters tall).<\/p>\n

I found it interesting to see that China loves to build walls! However, these are actually effective in keeping men riding horses out- considering that the horses cannot climb over the walls as humans can.<\/p>\n

Next stop, sand dunes!<\/p>\n
