{"id":2066,"date":"2014-01-23T06:13:35","date_gmt":"2014-01-23T06:13:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/setcourseforchina.wordpress.com\/?p=2066"},"modified":"2014-01-23T06:13:35","modified_gmt":"2014-01-23T06:13:35","slug":"graffiti-at-the-great-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/?p=2066","title":{"rendered":"Graffiti at the Great Wall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, my Dad and I hired a driver for the day to take us to the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall.\u00a0 Although I have been to the Great Wall before with my program, I wanted to make this trip just as special.\u00a0 As I was thinking about how to go about doing that, our driver stopped at a small Catholic village for lunch.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, Catholic villages are not the norm in China.\u00a0 They are actually quite unusual because during the Cultural Revolution they were disbanded or destroyed- most religious institutions were.\u00a0 However, this small village was so deep in the mountains nobody knew about.\u00a0 It was only recently when a major highway was built which sliced through the mountain that this village was discovered.\u00a0 Luckily, the government let them be.<\/p>\n<p>One family invited us into their home and cooked us a delicious lunch before our hike.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/2014\/01\/p1050613.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-2077\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/p1050613.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Off to the Great Wall! It was incredibly windy and cold on Monday.\u00a0 The best perk of going during their off season is that no one was there.\u00a0 In our 3-4 hour hike we saw 3 people.\u00a0 That&#8217;s it!
