{"id":1022,"date":"2013-10-14T12:16:43","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T12:16:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/setcourseforchina.wordpress.com\/?p=1022"},"modified":"2013-10-14T12:16:43","modified_gmt":"2013-10-14T12:16:43","slug":"day-six-longwu-monastery-and-tangka-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/?p=1022","title":{"rendered":"Day Six- Longwu Monastery and Tangka School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we traveled to the village of Tongren.\u00a0 We were very fortunate enough to visit Longwu Monastery.\u00a0 This is one of a few monasteries in all of China which is allowed to have pictures of the 14th Dalai Lama. Since he grew up in Qinghai province, the government is a little more relaxed about his picture being shown.\u00a0 However, this is not the case for the rest of the provinces in China.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/2013\/10\/dscf0752.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-1027\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dscf0752.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We were not allowed to take pictures inside of any of these buildings but in the very back was a large portrait of the 14th Dalai Lama.<\/p>\n<p>We also got to see how small villages in China take advantage of solar energy with solar panels and &#8220;home-made&#8221; solar panels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/2013\/10\/dscf0757.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-1031\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dscf0757.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/2013\/10\/dscf0765.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-1033\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dscf0765.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped along the way for some lovely yak butter tea! Yum! My favorite!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/2013\/10\/dscf0764.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-1035\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dscf0764.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then off to the Tangka school!\u00a0 Tangka&#8217;s are religious paintings which are normally very detailed.\u00a0 We got to speak with an artist while he was painting.\u00a0 The particular work he was finishing took him 6 months to complete.\u00a0 They can depict the famous prayer found in prayer wheels or on prayer flags: &#8220;Om mani padme hum.&#8221; Or they can depict gods or stories! Usually they are really colorful and unique!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/2013\/10\/dscf0774.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-1042\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"https:\/\/evacohnchina.summitbiztech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/dscf0774.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had a lot of fun visiting the monasteries and seeing the Tangka school.\u00a0 China is not a religious country so it is interesting to see how rich religious culture can be in some parts of the country. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we traveled to the village of Tongren.\u00a0 We were very fortunate enough to visit Longwu Monastery.\u00a0 This is one of a few monasteries in all of China which is allowed to have pictures of the 14th Dalai Lama.
