A long, long time ago when the sub-continent of India slammed into the Asia region, really massive mountains formed. As you probably know, the Himalayas (and obviously Mt. Everest) are the most known. However, these mountains also extend up into Central Asia along the Tarim Basin to form Tian Shan. Tian Shan means Heavenly Mountain. The following pictures were taken as we hiked through one beautiful section of the mountain range. Take note of the angle of the stone. See how it is at a 45 degree angle? These rock formations/mountains are really ocean floor that was pushed up when India merged with Asia. Enjoy the photos!
Running water has cut the path between these rock formations. I believe the water was deeper and more rapid in previous times but today it still trickles through.
It was a long day but my friend Justine and I loved hiking in Tian Shan and didn’t want to leave!
