  • I ATE A STARFISH

Out of live scorpions, lizards, and unknown little critters–I decided to try eating a starfish at Wangfujing. It was quite tasty too! (Side note: When I said it tasted like seafood, I meant it was super salty.)

  • Campus during the fall is beautiful.  It makes me miss home. Those crumpled up leaves that crunch under your shoes..it’s my favorite sound. I’ll be home soon.

  • Burping a Baby Panda

  • Finding a Chinese Book Store

On Thursday my Foreign Policy class was canceled so I had the whole afternoon free! My roommate and my friend decided to check out a Chinese bookstore in Sanlitun.  Sanlitun is a very westernized part of Beijing so lots of foreigners hang out here. We wanted to visit this particular bookstore, Page One, because it…

  • Time in China

If you thought this blog post would be about my time so far in China, it’s not.  I’ve been cooped up inside studying the past few days but my mind has been mulling over one thing.  Time in China is strange. Firstly, there is only one time zone in China.  Yup, just one! However, it’s…

Summer has since dwindled away and the cool air has come to stay in Beijing.  However, I keep searching for carved pumpkins on doorsteps and brightly colored trees along the sidewalk.  Fall in a foreign city is not something I’m used to.  I woke up this morning feeling a little down that I missed Halloween…

  • Day Four- Conquering Mount Emil

Today was easily my favorite day of the whole trip!  Mount Emil is very large and steep! A fellow traveler said he was going to hike the whole mountain and expected it to take 12 hours. Even while staying at the base of the mountain, there was no way we would have enough time to…

  • Day Three- The World’s Largest Stone Buddha

We packed up and checked out of Mix Hostel to travel 2.5 hours south to the small town of Leshan.  This town is home of the world’s largest stone Buddha!  After getting off of the coach bus, we took a local bus to the entrance of the park.  It was a beautiful, foggy morning in…

  • Day Two- Seeing What Chengdu has to Offer

Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, is a fairly decent sized city.  After pouring over our tourist map, I realized that all the destinations I wanted to visit were within walking distance of each other.  I’m not sure how this happened, but of the other 7 people in our group, I was the best…
